Last week I celebrated my birthday.  One of the highlights of week came in the mail. It was this picture created by my favorite six-year old in the world – my nephew, Gavin Byers of Atlanta, Georgia.

You see, Gavin is in his super hero stage and has been for a good two years now.  In 2011 when he visited me in Brooklyn, Gavin was into Superman. For him, it was all things Superman.   Since then, Gavin has moved on from Superman to create his own super hero character — “Super Gavin.”

His mother, my sister Charisse, told me the inspiration for this picture came when Gavin watched the recent news report about the Brooklyn man, who caught the young girl when she fell from her third floor apartment window.

We aren’t sure why the truck made it into the picture.  But we do know Gavin likes trucks, and well, he needed the truck to be in the picture.

With all of the serious matter going on in the world, these gifts from children are treasures meant to share.
